Album Info:

The most important step in a successful project is a good plan. We put masking tape or snapped chalk lines on the floor to better visualize the spaces and light placements before beginning to build. The finished project is pretty faithful to the plan - of course when some obstacle, opportunity or spark of ingenuity arose it was dealt with. Completed, there is a fireplace, bar and kitchen with electric cooktop, wall oven and full-size refrigerator; a media area with full surround sound and space for a tournament-size pool table. There are 2 dozen light switches and an equal number of double receptacles, 18 cannister lights, 4 pendants, 8 pucks, 2 sconces and 3 closet fixtures - a 100 amp sub-panel with 12 circuits has been installed to accommodate everything. Three telephone jacks and a doorbell chime have been incorporated into the existing house systems. This entire project was DIY and took parts of 5 winters - approximately 730 sq. ft. are finished and 230 sq. ft. unfinished, including the yet-to-be completed bath.
