The name comes from the Celtic "ferfaen" meaning to "drive away stone", referring to its use in helping to cure bladder infections. It also has reputed aphrodisiac qualities. It was highly regarded by the Druids, and in medieval times was used in love potions. It was worn as as a good luck charm. One legend says it was used to staunch the wounds of Christ on Mount Calvary. This bloom is about ¾ inch in diameter.

  • This is Ferfaen Great! I told you I favor blue flowers! The focus is perfect! I have several photographs of this flower in my new album, with a bee in them. Thanks for the name as I did not know what it was called:) Interesting history you've provided!
