Album Info:
"After an apparently fatal mission to stop a Nazi super weapon from being launched against Washington, DC, the body of Captain America lay deep in the Arctic Ocean before being discovered over a half century later. Steve Rogers awakened to a changed world... "Cap felt lost until General Nick Fury offered him an opportunity. With massive financial backing and support from the U.S. Government, Fury, now head of S.H.I.E.L.D., has been building a team designed to be the last line of defense against super powered terrorism. Led by Captain America with Hank Pym as Giant Man, able to grow to sixty feet; his wife Janet known as the Wasp, able to shrink to an inch and fly; the billionaire industrialist Tony Stark offering himself and his personal weapons system The Iron Man; and Bruce Banner attempting to replicate the Super Soldier process, they are The Ultimates." I have been a big fan of Marvel Comics' The Avengers since the mid-to-late 1970's, as well as of their "Ultimate" comics titles (Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate X-Men, etc.), launched in 2002. I was especially excited about the "ultimized" Avengers comic entitled "The Ultimates"--and not just because I could read the first few issues for free on Marvel's site! Conceived as a grittier, "real-world" Avengers, the last line of defense between us and super-human terrorists, the comic reads like a Jerry Bruckheimer movie (complete with lots of two-page "wide-screen" spreads) following "The World's Mightiest Heroes" and their exploits. The design of each character has been given an update by series artist Bryan Hitch and I was impressed with Hitch's rethinking of each of the costumes. But when I saw his makeover of the classic star-spangled hero, it inspired me to model. Captain America is cool, but Ultimate Cap kicks major butt!
