Richard Harper -- Mom's Christmas Dress
arachnesobsession (Premium member) > albums > 2009 Year's End Celebration of Sewi...
Album Info:
Richard made this dress for his mother as a Christmas gift from Simplicity 2888. The fabric is a linen/rayon blend in a light taupe with a black "Renaissance Brocade" print. The fabric is soft and drapey so he underlined the bodice with organza for stability and lined it with polyester. The demi-bias paneled skirt and 3/4 sleeves are unlined. All of the exposed seam allowances and the armscye are bound with bias strips of lining ("Hong Kong" finish) and the neckline is finished in self-piping. The buttonholes in the cuffs were made with a vintage Singer buttonholer. This outstanding creation was sewn with Richard's 1950 Singer 221 Featherweight. Mothers, teach your sons to sew!
