The completed base. I primed/base-coated the main platform and skull tank platform pieces gray after removing some mold lines, and washing and air-drying them. The eight pieces that make up seven of the other base elements--four pipes/hoses (one is two-part), the valve wheel, the skull, and the skull tank lid--were all de-sprued, assembled and smoothed (the two-part pipe), washed, air-dried, and primed/base-coated black. For the steel bands and couplings on the pipes and hoses, I painted the indentations and ends on them with FA Metallic Gunmetal Gray; I also painted the valve wheel and the tank cover the Gunmetal color. I painted the rivet heads on the tank cover with DC Metallic Silver. Then I sealed the parts with a couple of light coats of Testors Dull Cote.
