This part is on several different brands of furnace built by one manufacturer. It can be a very good indicator of heat exchanger problems. When the grid is discolored and cracked as this particular example it usually indicates air flow problems within the heat exchanger. The next step is to check the level of carbon monoxide in the flue gas outside. The maximum allowable reading is 100ppm in Ontario. It may be different where you are. The heat exchanger must be replaced or in some cases the entire furnace is replaced due to age and other factors. If your furnace looks like this, call a qualified gas technician YESTERDAY!!!!!!!!!!
