Cooking Instructions - Best way to prepare globe artichokes - Remove stem and any tough outer leaves, cut off the top 3cm of leaves, and immediately rub all cut surfaces with lemon juice to prevent discolouration. Place in a pan and cover with water, add the juice of a lemon, a pinch of salt and a bay leaf. Bring to the boil and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the leaves can be easily pulled away from the globe. Remove from the heat and allow to cool in the pan. Finally, remove the central core of purple leaves and the inedible hairy choke. Eat by pulling the leaves out and sucking the flesh out of the bottom of the leaves. FOR THE BEST STEAMED GLOBE ARTICHOKE - Prepare as for boiling and steam for 35 - 40 minutes or until a leaf will pull out easily. FOR THE BEST MICROWAVED GLOBE ARTICHOKE - Prepare as for boiling and cook on full power for 10 minutes or until a leaf will pull out easily. Leave to stand for two minutes before serving.
