Make an impression mat of the lace design you want on a piece of overhead transparency using dimensional fabric paint. The lines have to be thick enough to make an impression so a second coat may be necessary. This pattern was symetrical so there is no reason to flip the design, but if you have a one way design you need to make your impression mat design backwards so that you will be imprinting it the correct direction on the cake. This needs to be done several days in advance to be sure that the paint has time to dry. I also mark the transparency with the bride and groom's name and wedding date for future reference. You never know when they might order an anniversary cake and want the same design. NOTE: The dimensional fabric paint that I use is labeled non-toxic so it is safe to use an impression mat. None of it sticks to the cake anyway for consumption.
