Having started his trade in the Slovak leagues, Hecl was drafted in the 7th round (208th overall) in the 2002 draft by the Buffalo Sabres. He ended up playing 14 games for the Sabres. He garned no points and kept himself very disciplined with only one minor penalty. Hecl would see the rest of the season with the Rochester Americans of the AHL picking up a very impressive 20 points in 61 games. I think Hecl is a truely great player. I do wonder if he will ever replicate the 2+2 he scored in the pre-season game againt the Scimaters. Here's hoping.
