Album Info:
The process of making holes in fence posts to hold the fence rails was a two step process. First the adults would bore sets of 2 closely spaced holes in the post with an auger similar to that in the previous picture. The children would use an axe to chop out the wood between the closely spaced holes to make a large hole. Notice in this photo that the 2 holes at the top of the post have not been connected yet.

My husband was impressed with the skill it must take to cut squares with an axe. I liked the detail about the drilled holes.
