    • All of these ship blocks in the 2 quilts, were given to me, and had been hand quilted to 2, 3 and 4 layers of batting And backing.. None were cut straight, some didn't have enough backing to get to the edges of the blocks, some had been cut crooked around the ships. They all had a wooden "frame"border around them, some had been cut off on one side or two sides.. or cut into. Really a mess. I finally decided to trim all to the same size, then add sashing and borders.. I put 2 layers of batting behind the sashing only, and used a dark backing to hide the differences, most were white or cream, one was orange checkered. I din't know to do the sashing first so tried to quilt around the ships & sails.. then the line between the two blues, and finally sid around each darker blue. In all they were a pain in the keester and doubt I'd consider doing anything similar again.
