I really did not like the open-back look of the backs of pieces representing the machinery, and I wanted to close them; but, I did not have any sheet styrene handy--or did I? One day my take-out lunch came in one of those clear plastic snap-to-close boxes, and I had a frugal modeler moment! After a brief experiment to verify that modeling glue would, in fact, fuse this plastic, I ran a bead of Testors liquid cement around the back edges of the two kit pieces and affixed them to the flat section that I had cut out of the thoroughly cleaned and dried plastic box. After the glue was cured, I went about cutting off the excess plastic with my X-Acto knife. The pieces were sanded and primed/base-coated gray.
