Album Info:

Shows annual rings, number of rings indicates the age of plant, there are two alternate rings spring wood and autumn wood, secondary growth is more in spring as leaves transpired more water, so plant has to conduct more water, vessels and tracheids thus formed has wide lumen. reverse to that Winter no leaves less transpiration so growth is less, lumen of vessel is narrow hence bloked by gum so looks dark [autumn wood].

  • I love this photo Jay, and it's a terrific entry! Just the patterns and rings on the pieces of wood are beautiful, but add the stones and it's truly a work of art! When I see a picture of nature like this, my highest compliment would be to say 'I'd love to do a weaving of this'. I would REALLY love to do a weaving of this!! Good luck my friend, J
