When I was a child, I built an open enclosure in our backyard with simple board walls about one foot high and enclosing an area beneath a fig tree with nice soft grass and shade of about 10 square feet. I collected all the turtles I could find and at one point had 18 turtles living there. I fed them fruit and vegetables and the bones and fat from cooked chicken, they loved it!! It was so funny to watch them. They had baking pans set in the ground like ponds to swim in and I played with them everyday!! I think I was about 9 or 10. Most of them were brown, some had bright orange on their legs. There were small young ones and very large ones and all sizes in between! That was a lovely summer I will always remember, my turtle pets!! I set them free eventually before winter arrived ... and missed them for such a long time!
