One of the great things about the British Elite League is that you had to have British players. Due to the rather sad demise of the Altrincham Aces, the Phoenix suddenly benefitted from having a lot of good, local players at their fingertips. Jason Hewitt was one of them. Jason played 56 games for the Phoenix, getting 3 points. This may seem bad but you have to consider the Brits were still given rather shorten ice-time compared to the imports. It was a time to learn though, and when Phoenix went into mothballs, Hewitt went to the London Racers.
