  • Your roses and cakes are absolutely breathtaking. Where did you learn to do this? Please share the sizes of the rose cutters you are using. I always have a difficult time in selecting the right ratio of cutter to rose base, ie, 1" base - what range of cutters? Thanks, Sandra

  • Thanks for the compliment. I pretty much taught myself to make flowers. Also in this album is my tutorial on how I make roses. For a 1 inch base, my cutters range from 1/2 inch in the center to a 2 or 2 1/2 inch outer petal cutter.

  • Self taught? That's amazing. Your flowers are every bit as good as Ron Ben Israel. As a matter of fact, I would have bet you took classes from him. I see your tutorial and plan to use it to see if I can produce anything close to what you do. I do notice, however, that the large yellow rose doesn't seem to use the same technique. It looks like the petals are just swirled around the flower nesting inside of each other. Is this a different technique? As a matter of fact, this is the flower that reminds me of Ben Israel's work I've seen online. Is this your profession, or do you do it as a hobby?

  • Ron Ben-Isreal....you flatter me! I would love to have a chance to work with him or Sylvia Weinstock!! The yellow rose is pretty much the same technique...you can get a lot of variation by varying the number of petals you use and how deep you tuck them in under each other....just experiment with it...not matter how much they vary....they are all beautiful.....just like the real ones!

  • Sylvia does great work, but those glasses have got to go!!! Ha! Ha! Seriously, your cakes posted here are as good as similar cakes I have seen from Ron. I wish I could get to be that good. I work full-time and do cake decorating in my spare time. It's definitely not a "hobby" for me, I just don't have enough time to practice as much as I should. Hopefully, I will be able to retire in a couple of years and then I can pursue my passion for sugarcraft full time.
