Hyophorbe indica
skellsbells > albums > Container grown palms
Album Info:
This is a taller, thinner relative of the bottle and spindle palms. The form with red petioles, shown here, is said to be more tolerant of cold than other forms. It may take down to 29 or 30 if well sheltered, before damage begins to occur. Likely not tolerant of any frost. Rather slow growing. The one in the photo is several years old, and in a 1 gallon pot. It survived defoliation from an unknown cause (not cold as it was in the warmer months).
