From Central America. This palm is grown for harvest of the unfurled male inflorescence, which is eaten as a vegetable. It is among the largest of the Chamaedoreas. The petioles are striped, and the leaflets pendant. Usually a solitary plant, but some may be clumping. Not frost tolerant. May take down to about 30 or so if sheltered. This one is in a 1 gallon container.
