After sanding to 320 grit, I refinish the knobs and totes with 4-5 coats of 1 1/2# cut shellac. The shellac is wiped on and rubbed with #0000 steel wool after the second coat. Just before final assembly, they will be waxed, applied with #0000 steel wool, to smooth the final coat.
