I believe that if I had fixed the image with a matt fixative (I use Helmar) the ink would not have bled. I've used matt fixative on dominos in the past, even some on which I had stamped with Adirondack, and to this day they haven't bled. Clear varathane so far, has proved a good gloss sealant for me as well.
