Album Info:

A veggie filter is a separate water feature about 1 to 1 1/2 feet deep planted with large rooted plants that are not fed anything except what passes by the bare roots. No soil is used. Water passes by the roots and reenters the pond free of ammonia. Plants can use ammonia and nitrite directly (both very toxic to fish) as well as nitrate (not usually toxic in ponds).
