Album Info:
Here's my friend, 'Island Girl' (from Saipan) Jo Anna, she's trying her hand for the first time at shooting a muzzleloading rifle. This is a replica Hawken Rifle of the style typical from the 1830s-1850s made by J&S Hawken from their shop in St. Louis, MO, and very popular with the fur trappers and mountain men who travelled to the Rockies and beyond. Here, Jo Anna is pouring out a measured amount of blackpowder into the barrel. The rifle has a fixed breech, and can only be loaded from the front.
