Here, you can see the lid off the 50 round Thompson Drum magazine. The compartments are loaded and then the lid will go back on. The 6 compartments load 4 with 2 rows of 5 and 2 with 1 row of 5 for a total of 50. Then, the key that holds the lid on is placed back on the shaft, and it is wound up like a spring wound clock, to supply the drive that rotates the mechanism that feeds the cartridges to the gun on the internal track.
