Album Description:

Once again, our home is bathed in April showers with the falling blooms of our beloved Golden Shower tree (Cassia fistula). With Katriona Wallace's poem, this album is dedicated to Rosita (nuberos). Please pray for her healing & swift recovery.

    • Very beautiful and thoughtful album Mary Ann! We have a beautiful type of laburnum tree that blooms at this time of year also. Makes me want to visit VanDusen Gardens in Vancouver this weekend to view their wonderful display... You are blessed to have such a wonderful garden. Steve

    • Wow, I've missed these flowers that I love so well. Back in my province in Pangasinan, I used to enjoy gazing at and admiring the beauty of such golden shower trees. In my hometown, Bolinao, we had such a big tree just across the road, and I've loved it so much. Where I am now, Sweden, I can never see such flowers again, but someday I will... Thanks for this great album. It's so nostalgic for me. You've captured their beauty so wonderfully! Best regards. -Charlene

    • Dear Dave, Yes, the Golden Shower tree (Cassia fistula) is native to our tropical Philippines. But I think this is quite prevalent as well in many places in India (hence, it's also called Indian Laburnum tree). I know for a fact that this tree also grows in tropical Florida. This is the only tree of its kind growing here in our subdivision, and many of my neighbors come over to our place just to ogle at or appreciate the blooms that dangle like tiny chandeliers from the branches. Folks come & visit as often as they want to - and this can go on for a month or 2 for as long as the blooms are there. Oh, this is such a happy-looking and giving tree! It certainly spreads cheer around! I like the thought! And I hope in some way, this album has spread some cheer to you, too! Oh before I forget, thank you for your precious visit and comment! And God bless! ~~~Mary Ann

    • I am not familiar with this tree. What a great plant. Is it native to your area?

    • Dear Mary Ann, Looks like your golden shower tree has recovered from your trimming. The golden splendor must be a sight to behold. It is oozing with its wonderful color in your album now. Katriona's sonnet also fits the tree to a tee! Thanks for sharing this wonderful annual visitor of yours!

    • GOLDEN SHOWERS - ENGLISH SONNET by Katriona Wallace: Once more as fragrant, joyful springtime calls / How often I have marvelled to behold / Laburnum branches decked in golden shawls / The sunlight flitting through their chains of gold / So beautiful they are, so many there / But would they seem so cherished could they stay? / Their sunkissed showers drifting everywhere / For rapidly their glory fades away / And though I may feel sad to see them go / Does fleeting splendour make them much more dear? / If here forever would I love them so?/ No, they become to me a gift more sheer / To see with different eyes, and each day find / New hope and grace for heart and soul and mind. ~~~
