Hello Anna; Thank you so much for your kind words and also the offer to join us on a visit to Keukenhof. That would be so lovely of you. Today we were so inspired, that we are actually starting with our plans to come for a visit. So much to learn for me. I have not been to Europe before and Bill has not been for many years and that was Germany for him. I think we will plan for the end of April as you suggested to get the best views of the tulips. But which towns to visit and where to stay? Travel by car or train? We will have to work out all of those details. This album I have seen several times before, Anna, but it is always wonderful to come back again to see it one more time. Nice opinions of your new (at the time) camera. I've enjoyed looking at all your pretty shots of Keukenhof very much! I was in Holland last year in June, too late to see this beautiful garden in spring bloom. I lived in The Hague when I was a child and vaguely remember the many colored tulip fields. I would like to come back 50 years later to see them again. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Anna. Here it goes another extensive will in your guestbook. This is another great album, as it was to expect. All your flowers photos are fantastic. I had never seen the internal organs of a flower so exposed. We can see perfectly the polen grains. Both photos with umbrellas are very happy. In the first one, umbrellas seem glass cupolas of a cathedral. And this umbrellas's garden with water reflections it's stunningly beautiful. In photos number 4, 26 and 48, besides the other qualities that you mentioned, tulips are lighted candles, or torches... it could, very well, be the procession of Our Lady of Fátima. It is something really moving. And I'm not really a very religious person. The narcissus in photo number 6 kills me. But, photo number 27 says everything about the photographer. This is a really great angle, in my opinion. There is such a balance... That first tree trunk is really beautiful. It look like sculptured. You may say: "ohhh, she is talking and she doesn't know anything about photography". But I do some painting, and this also requires some observation, and a choice. Number 50, WOW... This is great stuff, my favorite, I guess. Number 54 gorgeous... That heart in 65... And, finally, your mother looks really friendly, indeed... she reminds me someone who was in the same conditions... please forgive such an exhaustive description, but when I see something that touches me, I need to express it. No need to say that I downloaded lots of photos and that, after this, I have a great cleaning work to do in my collections. Best regards, Rosa ( I promise next time I will be short).

Anna I am responding to you as soon as I have finished reading your note. I'm so glad you are coming to know my country. I hope you love it. It's a pity that weather is not so good, but I have seen in www.intellicast.com, and it looks like it will get a little better in the middle of the week. Those photos I took in Algarve they, also, have been taken with cloudy skies and some rain. I hope that you take great pictures but, this time, you must publish it. I want to see my country captured by a great photographer! Please, I'm really excited with the idea. I don't no if you are going to read my message before you leave home. I hope that you visit the all Algarve coastal zone, starting in Sagres and passing by Portimão (praia da Rocha), Silves, Albufeira, in Tavira the old parte of the city is most beautiful, and then you may visit my favorite part of Algarve, near to Spain: Cacela-a-Velha, Santa Luzia, Monte Gordo, Vila Real de Santo António etc. You may cross the Guadiana river by boat or using the bridge and visit the spanish village of Ayamonte that is much pretty. In the higher part, there are narrow white streets that make us remember north Africa. And in Algarve there are little villages in the interior, quite beautiful, also. I hope you forgive me all these sugesttions but I don't know to what point you already have information about Algarve. I wish you wonderful days in my country and lots of good shots. Anna - my sincere thanks for looking at my Fire album so quickly. We are still shaking and planning to get down to the shops to restock frig/freezer.(30kms away) for when they open at 8am tomorrow - that is if our main road is open by then. Re the plane in #9, I enlarged that quite a lot at 110% graduations so it is partly pixellated as well - I think I might have removed the wires as it just HAD to be behind them didn't it!! Re the one I enhanced I usually do a much better job than that but am still not thinking straight! Feel free to work on the one on Webshots for now while I have a go with the original in Photoshop. There was just no real definition to give the scale had i left things as they were. Am now off to bed so thanks again and goodnight. Peter in Western Australia

Anna, these images are tremendous!! Thanks for taking the time to add all those comments -- I felt like I was reading about myself and my HP Photosmart digital camera -- also wonderfully automatic!! In fact, all the photos in my album on Flower Closeups 2004 (which I uploaded this week) were taken with my 2.1 megapixel, 12x HP!! In less than 20 months and over 14,700 images, the camera has literally died -- I just got an HP Photosmart R-series digital: 5.1 megapixel with 24x (3x optical and 8x digital zoom) -- a giant leap for me right now. Maybe in another 20 months I'll be up to the challenge of your 8 megapixel :-)) Thanks so much! P.S. Kyle is in the Army so all we know at the moment is that we're going to "Europe.&quo t; Most likely we'll be going to Germany, but the other possible locations are Italy and Belgium. I'm really excited about going, and wouldn't mind any of the locations! His good friend lives in the Netherlands, and we plan on visiting, so hopefully we we'll get to the spring gardens up there! Hello Anna, This is a nice party, great colors, great gardens, great macrophotographs, and the medium and long shots retain their clarity and detail. I can see why you love your CP8700. I have been extremely busy this summer (too much volunteer work) and my only photographs are aim and shoot record shots at some of the activities where I was a volunteer worker. Hi Anna!!! Here's my take on this....as a pencil artist, I am in love with the line, the flow....the essence that Mother nature has shown us and that can be carried into all design, all architecture...everything . By removing the colour from the picture, it makes the line more evident and more accessable to the designing mind. I have for a long time had some people look at my inticate pencil drawings and say...not that they are good...but..."wh ere's the color???" I tell them..."You have to look past the fact that there is no "colour&quot ; there are so many shades, layers...lines... curves. Colour is great...you proved that in your amazing Keukenhof album...standing out...vibrant amazing colour!!! But to pick and choose a part that displays the line, the curve, the edge, the intersecting line...that's art. It's a great way to really make a person think about composition and form. I love the glow, the edge, the transparency....makes me look deeper.... :o)b barbara

Hi Anna! I think what I wrote you earlier today is not enough for what you've done for me! I'm now feeling quite embarrassed about making my silly thoughts public and causing such pain to all my friends. Instead of standing along with everybody, I found the easy way to end the pain by quitting. Ah! What a shame! I really acted like a coward I guess. However I’m happy that my friends opened my eyes and made me look around and realize how wrong I was and I'm glad that I agreed. Here I'm again, starting to rebuild life from the scratch. We are getting ready to go to Canada, Prince Edward Island, again. I replaced my sick computer in NC with a traveling laptop. That should make life easier. Surprised you did not stay with the Canon line and buy the Rebel. Might purchase the Nikon Coolpix. Both cameras run about $1000 but the Rebel does not come standard with a telephoto lens and that must be bought as a separate lens.

Van dit album zijn nr. 28 (licht doorschijnend)en 61: gele tulpen tegen de donkerblauwe (druifjes)achtergrond beslist mijn favorieten. Zo te zien geeft deze camera inderdaad wondermooie resultaten, ik ga zeker eens op die site kijken voor de “review”. Hello Anna, I am back to your wonderful album : viewing it from time to time is a great pleasure as well as a target to what I would like to reach in photography expertise. Looking at the Keukenhof event, I can see you love this kind of event. I went to Spain last year and went to Girona (catalogna) where they have a similar event in the middle of may : it is called the "flowers time event". During that time (10 days) the old town is decorated with floral arrangements everywhere, including old and beautiful private homes, churches, momunents, parcs, etc. and it is a splendor to visit. Just to have an idea of what it is, your can view my album entitled : "Girona - Spain - The flower time event". Of course, this album is not a great one and has nothing to be compared to yours, but I think it will give you an idea of this event and perhaps give you a target for a beautiful trip to Spain ! Ana, sharing your "automatic secret" is not a surprise to me... as we're getting "wiser" it is more than obvious to use awesome gadgets included in camera. On the other hand some people, not experienced in photography, can also have some trouble with DOF.... Years ago, my friends complained about my photos being out of focus...guess what? Yes, I can wear reading glasses...but why not to use auto focus....then everybody is happy including my self...life can be so easy :)))) Have a great day! Cheers, Rafal

Ja Anna, zo'n featuring is een vreemd verschijnsel, ik had daarvoor zo'n 40 views per dag op mijn Keukenhof album, en ineens zijn het er duizenden, ook de andere albums scoren plotseling veel hoger. Ik heb nu 45000 views en een kleine 10000 downloads van de Keukenhof. Tijdens mijn gloriedag zat ik in Toscane en zag pas een week later dat mijn mailbox vol zat. Inderdaad een leuke ervaring. Hi Anna, those flat screens are very good when you view them at eye level position only. You are right, any other angle than direct view, the color changes can be hard to like or accept. Personally, I like the colors and exposure with perfect details including the quality of the images taken by you. Not to worry about flat screens. You are doing excellent work and a new Nikon in your hands is just what your really needed! Also, DOF is perfect! Superb photos and album. Hoi Anna, wat een PRACHTIG album! Zelf nooit op de Keukenhof geweest, je vertelde zelf al waarom wij Nederlanders daar niet naar toegaan, en dat is inderdaad onterecht. Zo te zien is de Nikon 8700 al helemaal vertrouwd voor je. Ik heb er ook mijn oog op laten vallen, 8mp, enorme zoom, swivel lcd.... Ik lees echter (ook van jouw hand op dpreview.com) dat snelheid niet de sterkste kant van de camera is, en laat dat nou net erg belangrijk voor me zijn. Saturday I was fortunate enough to purchase a used set of macro close up lenses at my local photgraphic. I have been having FUN FUN FUN ever since!!! They are 1X, 2X and 4X screw on lenses just like I have for my Minolta 350si (only they are 72mm...these are only 49mm) :o)b Oh happy day! :o)b :o)b barbie

Hi Anna! I couldn’t help it but to come back again to this extra ordinary album of flowers for a second visit. It really seems that no one else here has so completely understood the soul of the flowers in its depth and greatness, in its immense and mysterious potentialities and its impact on its viewers other than you. I’ve seen photos of beautiful gardens and seen some in real life too! But I tell you nothing like KEUKENHOF!! It’s really the flower paradise!! I also feel that no one else has better represented KEUKENHOF on the webshots other than you!! Hallo Anna, Van af nu kunnen we je wel de Paula Huf van webshots noemen. Het is echt top wat je laat zien! Die nieuwe camera van je kan natuurlijk heel wat maar het is toch ook het oog van de meester dat nodig is om zulke schitterende foto's te kunnen maken. Hello Anna and thanks for your comments on my featured album. Yes you are right, some of my shots are in a certain way in double but not really. The second one (dandelion)is on macro sizing at position 2 and at normal sizing on position 16. In the same way, the daisy at position 3 in in macrosizing and at a normal sizing at position 22. And thats all the doubles : even if they are very similar, the #1 and 11 are different shots ! you are a bright observer ! Concerning the sharpness and contrast, I use photoshop elements. For the contrast, you may be right, because my screen has hardware special tuning which makes colors more contrasted and bright than they are really => but it certainly does not look the same on ordinary screens ! For the sharpness, I don't know, I am not a so professionnal photographer as you are and I try not to make changes other than contrast to my shots. But you are right, I will try to apply the changes you suggest to see if the result is better. Thanks for your constructives comments : we, webshots members, are too much positiv in our comments and we very often forget to provide advice to improve our shots. Hi Anna!!!! Here it is the weekend at last and I have come once again for another visit to Keukenhof!!! This time is the pour tea...slowwwwwly enjoy AND this time to savor and SAVE! The image 29 with the orange in the back and purple in front is an absolutely PERFECT view!!! It makes me glad I upgraded my video card!!! To answer you question, peak spring season usually lasts from the end of March through the end of April, but there is always something blooming there. Now the roses and irises are taking their turns. Hi Anna, Thank you for your message. Yes, I made the pictures in Keukenhof a long time ago with a horrible pocket Olympus and then to make them worse, they were scanned and "repaired&qu ot; by the worst possible hardware and software.... :-) I will have to return there to make some decent shots. Nowadays I use a D100 with some very good lenses (like the ones from Prague)so if the pictures are bad, they are my fault... Thank you again for recalling Keukenhof to my memory, wonderful pictures of a wonderful place Uriel :-)

Hi Anna! Keukenhof is a perfect choice to test your new Nikon. The colors and the sceneries are marvelous. You did an excellent job featuring this wonderful park. Your macro shots as well as wide angle shots are fantastic. Now you've triggered my curiosity to check Nikon Coolpix 8700 out. I have to read more about its features and compare it with my other choices of 8-megapixel digicams. I have few days to decide.

Gorgeous pictures (as usual). I was one of those many tourists once who toured the gardens a number of years ago. I know if I lived in Holland I would be visiting Keukenhof every year, although you are right, most of my relatives who live there have never visited. I finally bought a little digital camera, not as good as yours but I'm looking forward to trying it out. Friday, I am going to Ottawa. Really Anna, what a superb collection hybrid tulips! I have dwelt on every picture and tried to soak in the colours. The park is a riot of colours. The Keukenhof park must be,indeed,a feast for the eyes. I too debated about getting a 8700, but finally bought a Nikon D70. I felt I'd eventually really graduate to interchangeable lenses etc. But I can see your 8700 has done a marvellous job. All the credit goes to the photographer ! Cheers, Suresh

Hello Anna; Thank you so much for inviting me to come and see your visit to this amazing garden show. I know what you mean about all the foreigners who come to visit the shows. I experienced the very same thing here in America when I went to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. I thought we were about the only ones there speaking English. Perhaps the natives are only being wise to come and visit when the crowds are not so heavy. Your album is simply exquisite. I was enchanted to see some of my very favorite flowers. Here we call it "Blushing Beauty". My favorites of your shots are #17, 31, 36,63,64,65. Those umbrellas made me smile and you truly have they eye of an artist. How fortunate that you have one of the best cameras on the market. You certainly do it justice. You ought to consider publishing a book of your fabulous photos of Holland and the love of flowers. A big coffee table book filled with your gorgeous shots. I would be first in line to buy it. Until then, I will have to be content to borrow your shots and keep them on my desk top.
